North Stars

Five North Strand courses to play on your next Myrtle Beach golf getaway

MyrtleBeachGolf.net provides access to the best courses the Grand Strand has to offer, including five courses on the North Strand that are truly remarkable. Be sure to check out these stars of the North next time you golf in Myrtle Beach:

Tidewater is a star in North Myrtle Beach that emphasizes the land that surrounds the course as well as any in the area, with boats passing by on the Intracoastal Waterway and scenic views of natural Lowcountry marshlands for as far as the eye can see. The beauty of golf in the South Carolina Lowcountry is on full display at Tidewater. But don’t look too long! The course is challenging and requires skillful shot making to be successful.

The Dye Course and The Fazio Course at Barefoot Resort & Golf in North Myrtle Beach are two remarkable stars. The Dye Course features the expansive fairway bunkering, strategic mounding and classic railroad ties that make Pete Dye a legend. The course is a real bear but also a tremendously fun time. The Fazio Course is an elegant Lowcountry gem meandering through marsh, pines and live oaks, and embracing Myrtle Beach’s natural features, as water comes into play on 15 of 18 holes.

Thistle Golf Club’s three 9s – Stewart, Mackay and Cameron – are all designed by Tim Cate and offer impeccable course conditions and customer service that is second-to-none for public golf. Each 9 presents a playable links style in a unique Lowcountry setting, so that no matter which two 9s you play, your round is always highly creative and, most of all, fun. With a background that will blow you away, course features that will challenge all players and perfect conditions year-round, Thistle Golf Club is a star for a reason.

Last, the surroundings found at Rivers Edge in Shallotte, North Carolina make it a star for all who visit. Beautifully utilizing the tidal areas of the Shallotte River, the course was designed by “The King” himself, Arnold Palmer, and is as beautiful as it is fun to play. Give it a shot and see how well you do.

With so many great courses to check out on the North Strand, what are you waiting for? Book yourself a spot at SeaSide Resorts, bring your clubs, and get golfing with MyrtleBeachGolf.net.

Top 5 Central Strand Courses for a Myrtle Beach Getaway

The “Grand Strand” of Myrtle Beach golf features three distinct areas over a 60-mile stretch, each of which offers its own unique flair when you include their courses as part of a golf getaway. The Strand’s northern end is highlighted by premier golf courses such as Tidewater Golf Club and all four designs at Barefoot Resort & Golf, while the South Strand includes courses such decorated designs as TPC Myrtle Beach and Caledonia Golf & Fish Club.

Right in the heart of the action, though, are the many prized offerings of the Central Strand. If you’re staying in or close to the City of Myrtle Beach, make sure you check out these five designs.

  1. Pine Lakes Country Club. “The Granddaddy” of them all, Pine Lakes is the oldest club in all of Myrtle Beach. This 1927 design has held up nicely against the test of time, and thanks to a $15 million renovation in 2009, the course is as good as ever. Come enjoy this historic piece of property next time you’re in Myrtle Beach.
  2. Prestwick Country Club. There’s nothing like a classic Dye design in Myrtle Beach to get your golf trip started. The Pete and P.B. Dye design at Prestwick Country Club is famous for dramatic elevation changes, deep pot bunkers and large, undulating greens. When you get to the 9th and 18th holes, don’t look at that water!
  3. Arrowhead Country Club. Arrowhead is a 27-hole facility that borders the Intracoastal Waterway and plays host to some of the fastest greens around Myrtle Beach. Arrowhead gives you the views and premium course conditions at a great price.
  4. Legends-Moorland. At Legends Golf & Resort there are three championship golf courses that will test your golf game, and the Moorland course is another P.B. Dye design that reveals its signature Dye elements the moment you step on the first tee box. Set up like a true links golf course, the Moorland course can be a great time for every skill level.
  5. King’s North at Myrtle Beach National. King’s North remains one of the most requested golf courses in the Central Strand, featuring risk-reward holes like “The Gambler” at No. 6 and “Bull’s Eye” at No. 18, which has some 40 bunkers on it. With greens that are pure year-round, Arnold Palmer’s premium design at King’s North has been a “must-add” to many vacationing golfers’ itineraries over the years.

If you’re staying in the central part of Myrtle Beach make sure stop by one of these five golf courses and soak in every minute. Start planning your golf trip around these courses today; for more information on them click here.

Play Legends for Less

Play 3-Get 1, Play 4-Get 1 Legends deals give you freebies galore

MyrtleBeachGolf.net and Legends are now offering two outstanding stay-and-play packages, a 4th round free and a 5th round free deal, each including rounds at one of Legends’ five award-winning properties – Moorland, Heathland, Parkland, Heritage Club or Oyster Bay. Here’s how the deal works:

Choose any three Legends courses and get the 4th round FREE; or choose any four Legends courses and get the 5th round FREE. Each day of play you’ll receive breakfast, lunch and two beers or soft drinks at the courses for FREE. Your free round must be played after 1 p.m., but that restriction may be lifted for the winter golf season. Your free round discount will be applied once your deposit has been paid.

A nationally ranked multi-course facility, Legends’ Moorland, Heathland and Parkland courses are located on the same piece of land in central Myrtle Beach. Scottish-inspired, Moorland is a gem, with stern changes in elevation that challenge players to contemplate every yardage. Heathland remains most true to links-inspired golf. Its wide-open fairways and ginormous greens make for a thrilling time. And Parkland is the most contemporary of the three, playing more like a North American golf course than a European links-style.

Carved through centuries-old pines and oaks and with natural marsh views that are sure to inspire, Heritage Club in Pawleys Island is a must-play for so many reasons. The par-71 layout requires creativity and shot-making to successfully navigate the course. Finally, Oyster Bay is located in Sunset Beach – just across the North Carolina border – and features a design element not commonly found in Myrtle Beach. Undulating greens, expansive bunkering, some of the longest water views you will find in the area and, notably, crushed oyster shell-lined tee boxes mark Oyster Bay as truly unique.

Check out everything Legends has to offer, all for a price you will love! See more at MyrtleBeachGolf.net!

Package Spotlight: The Mystical 3-Round

Play three rounds including lunch and two beers at Mystical Golf’s Trifecta

Myrtlebeachgolf.net is the place to go for booking once-in-a-lifetime Myrtle Beach golf vacations, and right now, they are offering an outstanding one featuring three of Myrtle Beach’s best: Mystical Golf’s Witch, Wizard and Man O’War.

The Mystical 3 Play Including Lunch and 2 Beers gets you a round of golf at each of these brilliant courses, designed by local legend Dan Maples, as well as FREE lunch and two FREE beers each day you play. The earlier you book the more you save, and additional discounts apply for rounds played before 8 a.m. and/or on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

The Witch was built in 1989 on a beautiful piece of land, surrounded by native grasslands and with wildlife in abundance. Alligators and egrets are spotted frequently. As the back nine takes you away from the marsh, you experience swift elevation changes rarely seen in a Myrtle Beach golf experience.

Man O’War was built next, in 1996, with a layout Maples utilizes to showcase another daunting challenge in golf – lakes. The course plays more than 7,000 yards from the back tees as it wraps its way around one of the larger lakes in the area. The lake is completely visible throughout the round but still far enough way that it doesn’t punish players too much. Seeing the lake is great. Playing Man O’War is even better.

The Wizard is an Irish links-style design with the mounds, hills and dunes to match. Simply put, the clubhouse is as creative as you will ever see (go find out why for yourself), and the par-4 18th hole with the green adjacent to it makes for a thrilling finish.

Don’t forget that with Myrtlebeachgolf.net, the best accommodations for your stay are at your service with just the click of a button! Beautiful, award-winning lodging options like SeaSide Resorts, located directly on the shores of the Atlantic, offer a luxury boutique experience in North Myrtle Beach with spacious accommodations and 4-star services.

The Course that Dye Built

The Dye Course remains one of Myrtle Beach’s most elegant golf experiences

Consistently ranked in the top 100 public golf courses in the country, The Dye Course at Barefoot Resort & Golf in North Myrtle Beach sets an exceptionally high bar for Myrtle Beach golf – which should come as no surprise with a layout designed by the legend Pete Dye. And with the unmatched customer service that has become standard at Barefoot, the Dye Course really makes you feel like you are a member for the day from the time you arrive at the bag drop to the time your last putt drops.

The course opened in 2000 to rave reviews and is still a must-play for industry professionals, locals and returning visitors. Known for its visually stunning design synonymous with the Dye name, the course utilizes the natural beauty of the land with a layout built with the land and not into the land, and with the natural grasses and waste areas for which Dye is so well known. Expansive fairway bunkers, strategic mounding and Dye’s famous (or infamous) railroad ties remind you that are walking alongside golf course design’s greatest genius and artist.

All the par 3s are exceptionally scenic, and the signature par-4 18th provides incredible views of the clubhouse and the 9th hole as it wraps its way around a lake to the left from tee to green, making for a finish that you won’t soon forget.

As impressive as it is challenging, Barefoot-Dye is top-notch in every way. And with MyrtleBeachGolf.net, you can experience The Dye Course at Barefoot Resort & Golf for yourself – a place where world-class conditions and breathtaking views are just par for the course. What are you waiting for? Access to one of America’s best golf courses is just a few clicks away!

Course Spotlight: Arrowhead Country Club

Conveniently located just minutes from Myrtle Beach International Airport and major highways leading into the city, Arrowhead Country Club is the area’s most prestigious 27-hole complex.

Designed by the team of Tom Jackson and Raymond Floyd, Arrowhead features three well-maintained nine hole layouts: the Cypress, Lakes, and Waterway courses.

Scenic views of the Intracoastal Waterway and impeccable Bermuda grass fairways are just a sampling of things to be expected from a round at Arrowhead.

The Cypress nine naturally winds through forests and wetlands that often come into play. The sequence of Holes No. 2, 3, and 4, featuring bulkhead protected greens and rolling fairways, has been described as one of the most beautiful trios of holes in the nation. And its beauty is only equaled by the quality of the course itself.

Appropriately named, the Lakes course challenges golfers with water coming into play on almost every single hole. But generous fairways and multiple birdie opportunities are just as abundant. Like the Cypress nine, the Lakes features pristine fairways and impeccably maintained undulating greens.

The Waterway layout at Arrowhead is one of the most memorable nine-hole stretches in the area. This classic design also incorporates wide fairways, large greens and, of course, water. Considered to be Arrowhead’s signature hole is the 5th Hole on Waterway, a par 4 that runs parallel to the Intracoastal Waterway.

Regardless of what nine you play, Arrowhead is sure to deliver. The course has been named “South Carolina’s Golf Course of the Year” in addition to being named “The Best of the Grand Strand” in 2012.

North Strand Course Spotlight: Farmstead Golf Links

Over the years, Farmstead Golf Links has become one of the unsung stars of the North Strand golf scene. This popular Willard Byrd design has built its reputation on the popularity of its smooth, fast greens and a welcoming atmosphere.

Its collection of memorable golf holes includes three noteworthy holes.

Farmstead’s opening hole, a 420-yard par 4, kicks your adrenaline into high gear right from the jump. The pond on the right side helps provide the aesthetics, but the fairway offers ample room to hit driver off the tee. Despite its length from the tips, No. 1 is very manageable from the blue (387 yards) and white tees (367 yards). Avoid the fairway bunker, and a solid start is attainable.

Par fives typically tempt big hitters to get aggressive, but the 547-yard, par-5 ninth is every bit a three-shot hole.  The landing area of the tee is plentiful, and a nice drive and second shot with a long iron or fairway wood are essential to leaving you a short wedge approach for a chance at par or better. But the green at No. 9 is Farmstead’s smallest and falls off on the left side, so getting it close requires a precise approach.

You didn’t think we’d forget Farmstead’s finisher, did you? Everyone’s favorite hole here is the mammoth 767-yard, par-6 18th hole.  One of America’s longest golf holes, No. 18 tees off in South Carolina and concludes in the Tar Heel state. It is, without question, the hole people leave Farmstead talking about. There is plenty of fairway to land your drive, so players shouldn’t find much trouble off the tee. There is water that runs up the left side the last 200 yards, but the challenge at 18 is as much mental as physical. Take a par 5 approach to it, with just one more shot.

The PGA 5 is among our packages offering Farmstead as a course choice – and a $100 gift card for each golfer, valid at this and all courses affiliated with this package for food, merchandise, beverages and same-day replays.

Arcadian Shores – Rees Jones’ first-ever solo design resides in “The Golf Capital of the World,” and what better way to test the handiwork of the man known worldwide as “The (U.S.) Open Doctor” than to take on this design? It has now completed several upgrades, including a brand-new clubhouse, new cart paths and new greens – taking an exceptional design concept to another level.

Arrowhead Country Club – Tom Jackson, whose name appears on several additional designs in the area, teamed up with U.S. Open champion Raymond Floyd to deliver a 27-hole masterpiece nestled along the Intracoastal Waterway. Along with three 9-hole layouts that each present its own distinct challenge, Arrowhead is renowned for its exceptional conditioning on a year-round basis.

Prestwick – Following in the footsteps of his Father, P.B. Dye has become one of games most renowned architects. You get the ultimate combination at Prestwick, where Pete and P.B. Dye have created a links-style masterpiece containing several of their trademark elements, including bulkhead-protected greens, stairway bunkers and starting and finishing holes that border a large lake.

Course Spotlight: Long Bay Club

The Myrtle Beach area has its fair share of courses featuring the leading names in golf course design – including the likes of Pete Dye, Tom Fazio, Arnold Palmer and Tom Jackson, to name a few.

And when it comes to the game’s greatest all-time player, Jack Nicklaus, you have two course options that bookend the Grand Strand: Pawleys Plantation to the south in Pawleys Island, and the Golden Bear’s offering along the north end at Long Bay Club – the focus of our course spotlight here.

Along with its sister course, Long Bay Club is celebrating its 30th year on the Myrtle Beach golf scene. Long Bay continues to shine as a shot-maker’s course, and is a popular inclusion in golf vacation packages for its unique challenge and visually stunning presentation.

The “eye candy” is readily apparent at such holes as No. 10, sporting a fairway surrounded by waste bunkering that’s flanked by dramatic mounding, and leads to an elevated green; No. 7, a sprawling par 5 that wraps around a large lake and presents a compelling risk-reward option for your second shot; and No. 13, the island green par 3 that offers little room for error as you attempt to fly it to the putting surface.

No. 13 is just one of many holes at Long Bay that define Nicklaus’ approach here compared to Pawleys Plantation. While its sister design is fairly tight throughout and squeezes you more off the tee, Long Bay offers more room to let it fly with your driver – but places a premium on your approach shots. Come ready with your short game here, as high-trajectory shot making is in high demand here.

Our Captain’s Choice Package is an easy way to include Long Bay Club with several nearby options for an outstanding golf getaway, including Farmstead, Glen Dornoch and Grande Dunes Resort Course among others. Click here to view available tee times!
